Can We Talk about How Fucking Barbaric Dentistry Is?

On Friday, I paid $900 to have someone drill into my gums and put a screw in the hole. The dentist has the audacity to call this “dental implant surgery”.  It should be called “gum torture”.

The worst part is that they do this while you’re awake. They don’t even have the decency to put you under. They numb you, but that does nothing for the emotional pain.

The first part of the process involves the dentist taking a knife and slicing the gum open and then sawing at the opening with the knife.

I flinched during this and the dentist stopped.

“Can you feel pain?” he asked.

“No, I can hear the scraping and I know what you’re doing,” I replied.

He suggested I turn my headphones up.

Once he started drilling the hole, I thought that I was going to pass out. In my head, I could picture the drill going in and copious amounts of blood coming out and being suctioned up.

And that’s why you knock someone out when you drill a hole in them.

Isn’t there a better way to do this by now? Surgeons can operate on your insides by making tiny holes and inserting cameras and tools. Why are dentists still using knives and drills and just going to town on your mouth?

When I had the tooth removed the dentist basically just took a pair of pliers, braced herself, and used all her muscle to rip it out of my gums.

So, I have to believe that all dentists are sadists who needed an outlet for their urges and turned to dentistry.

I wish I could find a way to turn my kinks into profitable skills. Anyone want to pay me to peel their sunburned skin?

  1. OMG! Yes, it’s that last form of legalised torture, and akin to water boarding! And we pay them for the “pleasure” of having a healthy looking set of teeth. I’ve had several root canal/crowns done. I could have sent a rocket to Mars with the money I shelled out!

    1. Oomph. Root canals are awful too. And expensive! I had to have a tooth pulled a few years ago because I couldn’t afford the root canal. 🙁
